Wildlife and Glacier Cruises - Choices, choices,
choices...
Seward
Half-day cruises travel 55 miles roundtrip and venture into
the world of wildlife in Resurrection Bay. To give you a close-up of
Alaska's wildlife, we guide our ships close to massive bird rookeries and
sea lion colonies and stop along the route when we encounter whales or sea
otters. During the cruise we'll pass towering alpine glaciers, including
the enormous Bear Glacier, while providing spectacular photo opportunities
galore from the many outdoor viewing decks.
The
110-mile full-day cruise takes you into Kenai Fjords National Park and to
the Chiswell Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Hosting this cruise is a
uniformed National Park Ranger, who will provide narration to your journey
and point out the many spectacular sights while fielding any questions you
may have. Wildlife is abundant throughout the National Park, and the
tidewater glaciers are massive. You'll visit the mighty Holgate Glacier
where guests often witness calving - a process by which the glacier sheds
giant blocks and slabs of ancient ice - from a close distance.

Our

we travel futher into Kenai Fjords National Park than any other daily tour
operator. Make sure you bring your camera to photograph the abundant
marine wildlife and seabirds we see on every tour! Includes a light
breakfast and hot lunch. 150 miles round trip.

Whales, whales and more whales! Join us
as we explore Resurrection Bay and its outside waters looking for the
abundant Humpback whales, Orcas and porpoise. But be on the lookout for
the occasional Finback, Grey, and Minke whales. The main focus is to spend
time with the whales, but we also stop to view the sea lions, sea otters,
and an abundance of other marine wildlife, outstanding scenery and
glaciers. If whales are what you're looking for, then come join us!
Prince William Sound
Your
glacier cruise departs from our base in Whittier and ventures into the
calm, protected waters of Prince William Sound. When the boat enters
Blackstone Bay, you'll see the massive Blackstone and Beloit Glaciers
looming in the distance. As we move in closer, the glaciers grow larger,
until they tower 1,700 feet over our 100-foot vessel. Rather than sailing
from glacier to glacier, we stop at each one, floating among the icebergs,
giving you plenty of time to take in Mother Nature's glorious ice
sculptures. Listen for them to groan and watch for them to crack and calve
off enormous sections of ice.
Afternoon cruise
departs Whittier daily at 1:00 pm. Four & 1/4 hours cruise.
You will see the pristine areas of Barry Arm, College and Harriman Fjords
where there are 26 “named glaciers” and many more unnamed. The types of
glaciers seen are hanging or alpine, piedmont and tidewater glaciers. Sea
life includes sea otters, seals, porpoises and whales. Of the 200 species
of bird life inhabiting the area, bald eagles are very prominent. Another
highlight is the Kittiwake bird rookery with its rocky cliffs and unusual
waterfall. Land based wildlife often seen are mountain goats climbing the
steep cliffs next to the glaciers.
Homer
The 65' Rainbow Connection departs daily at 9am and returns
at 6pm for a full day of cruising Kachemak Bay and Kennedy Entrance (which
is the entrance to Cook Inlet). This cruise includes a shuttle to the City
of Seldovia, then 6.5 hours of whale watching from Seldovia to Kennedy
Entrance and if the weather permits we venture to the Barren Islands (a
USFW National Maritime Refuge). SPY HOPPING HUMPBACK - "Friendly" FLUKING
HUMPBACK. Possible Marine Mammal Sightings: Humback, Orca, Finback, Minke
and Gray Whales; Stellar sea lions; Sea Otters; Harbor and Dall Porpoise.
If you also enjoy viewing pelagic sea birds like puffins, cormorants, and
auklets then this trip is for you.
