Independence Gold Mine

Explore a 271-acre abandoned gold mine at Independence Mine State Historical Park. Over 13 structures built in the late 1930s and early 1940s remain standing. The visitor center will open on June 9th from 10 am to 7 pm daily. Guided tours will start on June 14th at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm daily on weekdays. On weekends and holidays an additional tour is offered at 4:30 pm. There is a day use parking fee and a separate tour fee. The visitor center is closed during the winter. Hatcher Pass and the Independence Gold Mine are reached by traveling north through Palmer 2 miles to Fishhook Road. Follow the signs for a beautiful 15-20 drive up to the mine. From Palmer, take the Glenn Highway east to Fishhook road, then left and follow the signs up to Hatcher Pass.
