Gold Panning - Most gold panning is free or of a nominal charge.  You can pan for gold along any navigable river and in certain areas, only where posted.

Indian Valley - Just 20 miles south of Anchorage is the enclave of Indian and the Indian Valley Mine.  It is located right on the Seward Highway.  A free tour is included and there is a small fee for gold panning.

Girdwood - Crow Creek Mine is located just off the Alyeska Highway in the Village of Girdwood, 36 miles south of Anchorage, and a great day activity.  Your nominal entrance fee entitles you to unlimited gold panning, the equipment, and a poke with a bit of the yellow stuff.  Take a picnic lunch and make a day of it.

Hope- Site of the first gold strike in Alaska, the Hope gold mine offers a similar opportunity.  Walk down to the creek and try your luck.

Cooper Landing- A more extensive setup awaits you in Cooper Landing with a gold panning exhibit, panning platform, and all the stuff necessary to find the illusive metal.

Seward- Anywhere along Resurrection Creek.

Denali- At Kantishna Wilderness Roadhouse as part of the custom tour package or anywhere along the banks of the Nenana River on your own.

Fairbanks- El Dorado Gold Mine includes gold panning as part of the tour.

Come prepared and watch out for bears during salmon runs.
