On the
northern city limit of Seward, take the turn for Exit Glacier Road and
drive the short distance to Exit Glacier National Park. You will find a
short one mile stroll along a marked and paved trail to the face of
Alaska’s most famous land-locked glacier. Marvel at the size, majesty, and
dramatic blue color of the ice. Hiking and nature trails abound in and
around the glacier area and your time here is well spent exploring the
subtle wilderness. This is bear country so keep you guard up! If you are
up to it, and have the time, the 7 mile round trip climb up 3500 feet to
the Harding Ice Field is a scene you will never forget—over 50 miles long
and one mile deep, this ice field feeds over 30 glaciers in the lower
Kenai region. Take plenty of water and lots of film. The standard US
National Park visitor’s charge applies and there is ample parking and full
rest room facilities and a ranger office.
