Dog Sledding Adventures

Anchorage - Experience all 1,049 miles of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in one action-packed, laugh-out-loud, dog-powered performance in downtown Anchorage! The Seavey family guides you through the history of sled dogs - from transport to sport -  telling their real stories from the trail, and demonstrating the incredible power and athleticism of their Iditarod champion sled dogs, in this hilarious family oriented show. After the show, meet the real Iditarod dogs and mushers, cuddle some adorable husky puppies, and get a picture of FlapJack, one of the stars in Disney's "Eight Below".

Seward - Wilderness Sled Dog Tour and Ride - Your real Alaskan adventure begins with a two-mile dog sled ride. Feel the power, excitement, and energy of our amazing sled dogs as they are harnessed to our comfortable wheeled sleds. The intrigue of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race comes alive as you mush through the Alaskan wilderness to the base of Resurrection Mountain and along Box Canyon Creek. Upon return to the dog yard, tour our beautiful kennel facilities, laugh as a volunteer is dressed up as an Iditarod musher, and cuddle adorable husky puppies. Our guides are all Iditarod racers, and offer a delightful, humorous, behind-the-scenes look at the Seavey family training for the most demanding race on earth.

Seward - Full Day Adventure - First, take in the fascinating history and breathtaking beauty as your guide shows you the sights of Seward. Experience the unique local color of "Alaska's Little Switzerland" and learn why Seward was known as the Gateway to Alaska and Mile 0 of the Iditarod Trail. See first-hand the effects of the 1964 Earthquake and stand in awe of the mountain that is home to the second oldest foot race in the United States. Then, head out to Exit Glacier, a major attraction of Kenai Fjords National Park. Enjoy a short walk along the nature trail that takes you to the face of the glacial ice. Watch for mountain goats, moose or bear on the mountainside. During runs, see salmon swimming upstream to spawn.  A hearty lunch will be served at nearby Resurrection Roadhouse before you enjoy a 1 1/2 hour Wilderness Sled Dog Ride and Tour.

Mat-Su/Willow - Get away from the crowds and join us for an intimate and personal visit of our kennel and homestead! April 15th through September 15th each summer.  Meet our Alaskan huskies and pups, get the inside story about mushing and racing, enjoy a 1 1/2 hour Iditarod presentation narrated tour, and have fantastic photo opportunities.  Vern Halter is an accomplished musher who presents his story of Alaska and the Iditarod in a provocative fashion that captures the essence of the Iditarod. Susan Whiton is a dedicated veterinarian also certified in chiropractic and acupuncture for sled dogs. She is a respected musher who won the coveted “Challenge of the North” Award (Best Musher) on her 1000 mile Yukon Quest Race. Our Iditarod presentations feature a ten to twelve minute opening video filmed on the Iditarod Trail and focus on the Dream a Dream Dog Team preparing and racing the Iditarod. These great videos are set to music with voice over commentary. The dogs tell their story of the Race. These videos are incredibly fun and educational to watch. Some of the titles are: Raz Ma Taz about our hyper active leader who loves racing the Iditarod; Doc’s Iditarod Dream a true story about our deaf lead dog; or Trouble on the Iditarod Trail about our dog named after her personality. Vern weaves in the history of sled dogs from early native use, gold rush use, the famous Serum run to Nome during the 1925 diphtheria epidemic-the focus is on the husky. The uniqueness of the Iditarod from the standpoint of length, diversity of competition and the NO HELP rule are highlights. Training and care of Iditarod dogs is demonstrated. The logistics of the race and food drops, checkpoints, veterinarian care, the Iditarod Air Force and trail conditions inspire questions. Race strategy and the changes to the Iditarod Race Vern has seen in his twenty five years of racing elicit more dialogue. Clothing and survival gear along with sleds and equipment are topics that are backed up with demonstrations. Stories from the trail are exciting and fun. Tough questions are considered and answered. We enjoy our guests and strive to make this a memorable stop.
